About Dr Promise Owai
My Story

As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The Future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
Allow me to paint the canvas of my journey, a tale that unfolds through the vibrant pages of life, stitched together with dreams, challenges, and a relentless pursuit of purpose. I am Dr. Promise A. Owai, and this is the story I share from the depths of my heart.
Born with an insatiable curiosity for the intricacies of life, my childhood was marked by an unwavering desire to make a difference. The streets of Calabar echoed with my dreams as I navigated the hurdles of adolescence with a clear vision—to heal, to lead, and to impact lives globally.
In the heartwarming city of Calabar, Nigeria, my story begins. My academic journey began at Emilis Secondary School, where the seeds of intellectual prowess were sown and held the prestigious post of Senior Boys Prefect (SP). With so much curiosity and keen interest in science, a path was carved that led me to the University of Calabar, where I earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBch) degree. Little did I know that this was just the prologue to a story of how these early footsteps would pave the way for a life devoted to Medicine, Leadership, and Global Healthcare Management.
The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital became my crucible, where I earned my stripes, adorned the coveted white coat, and delved into the art of healing. As a medical student I learned not just the science of clinical medicine but the profound impact a compassionate healer can have on someone’s darkest day.
The narrative took an unexpected turn when I assumed the mantle of Senate President of the Student Union Government, University of Calabar. Leadership beckoned, and I answered the call, becoming a voice for change and progress within the academic tapestry. My tenure as the Senate President was marked with great successes and legacies that transcends time such as the hitherto existing Constitution of the Student Union Government and state of the art SUG Senate Chamber, University of Calabar, Nigeria.
As the General Secretary of Association of Resident Doctors in University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, I contributed to the cohesive functioning of the association and helped to create a supportive and conducive environment for resident doctors to thrive in the training and professional journey.
Undeterred by the boundaries of my homeland, my story leaped across oceans to Coventry University in the United Kingdom. Here, amidst the academic rigors, I am not only pursuing a Masters in Global Healthcare Management but I have also etched my name in the annals of leadership. Rising to the position of President, Nigerian Society, Coventry University, I have become a bridge between cultures, fostering understanding and unity across cultures in my new community.
I am driven by a vision where healthcare is not merely a profession but a beacon of hope.
The crescendo arrived with the election victory that bestowed upon me the title of the pioneer Part time Officer of the School of Health and Care, Coventry University. In this role, I stand at the forefront of representing students’ interest in order to enhance learning and teaching, promote student well-being, career development opportunity for all, collaboration and social integration at the School of Health and Care, Coventry University.
Yet, my tale is not confined to institutions; it intertwines with the vibrant tapestry of community service. From coordinating medical outreach for the Nigerian Red Cross Society to initiatives like the distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs), my purpose extends far beyond the sterile walls of hospitals.
As the storyteller of my own journey, I invite you to walk with me through these chapters. Feel the pulse of passion, witness the dance of challenges, and embrace the unwavering commitment to a future where echoes of promise shape not only my story but inspire the stories yet to be written.
Thank you for being a part of this narrative. Together, let us continue to script a tale of healing, leadership, and boundless possibilities.
